Why Have Harmony Day?

WHAT IS HARMONY DAY?

Harmony Day recognizes that citizens of the Central Okanagan come from all over the world.

Harmony Day provides a yearly opportunity for the community of School District 23 to celebrate

our culturally diverse society and commit ourselves to mutual respect.

β€œHow can there be peace without people understanding each other and how can this be if they

don’t know each other?”

Lester B. Pearson

WHY IS HARMONY DAY IMPORTANT?

Harmony Day helps us:

  • Create sensitivity to and respect for differences
  • Commit to our district values - Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Empathy and Fairness
  • Celebrate our diverse and harmonious society
  • Say β€˜no’ to discrimination

Harmony Day allows us to focus on the values which underpin our mission:

β€œTo educate students in a safe inspirational learning environment where every student develops

the knowledge and skills to be a lifelong learner and a healthy productive member of our global society.”
